Start with your institution’s requirements
A university, TAFE or other education provider may have its own process for missed classes, assessments or examinations. Ask the student support or administration team which evidence they need before you book a consultation.
The document you need may be different from a standard absence-from-work certificate. Your institution may ask for a particular form, information about the affected period or submission through a student portal.
What to check before arranging an assessment
- Is the request for attendance, an extension, a missed exam or special consideration?
- Is there a specific form a practitioner needs to complete?
- Which type of practitioner can provide the evidence?
- What dates should the evidence address?
- What is the deadline and how should the document be submitted?
Take those instructions to the healthcare provider. They can explain whether they can assess your circumstances and provide the requested documentation. Do not assume a general online certificate will meet every institution’s requirements.
If you are a student who also works
A request for evidence for your job is separate from a request concerning your studies. If you are 18 or over, live and work in Australia, and need evidence for today’s absence from work, you can review our sick leave service.
That service costs $12.99 AUD for a pharmacist assessment, with a one-day work certificate emailed if approved. It is not a student or exam certificate. Check the current service details and your workplace’s requirements first.
